Vashon Island Junior Crew has set up with Vashon Island Thriftway to be a part of their 1% for Non-profits program. Thriftway will donate 1% of the dollar amount totaled on receipts turned in to them from participating non-profit organizations. Last spring, we began collecting receipts from both Junior and Master rowers and their families, wth the intent of all proceeds being used for future boat purchases. We encourage you to start saving those receipts now and donate them to crew. Just put your name and phone number on each receipt, and turn it in to the handy jar in the boathouse. A parent volunteer will collect the receipts and turn them in to Thriftway - all we have to do is watch our proceeds grow. Start saving now! |

When we originally posted this interesting little video back in November, we hadn't noticed that it featured one of our own. Scan forward to the 2:38 mark for a quick glimpse of former Vashon Juniors rower Tom Kicinski. He was caught on camera at a national rowing camp exhibiting some rather bad form (a video for which Tom has apparently caught plenty of flack from his college rowing buddies at the UW). It just goes to show, however, that with solid coaching, a few corrections and a lot of fortitude, one can still wind up in one of the nation's elite university rowing programs.
